
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander’s Nov. 14th newsletter provided these figures for the census in the shelter system as of Oct. 31, 2023. Non-migrants comprised about 54,000 persons and migrants about 65,000. Since August 2023, the numbers have been rising about 5,000 a month and have risen about 20,000 since June 2023. There are 22,000 migrants in the Health and Hospitals Corporation temporary shelter system, and nearly 90,000 in DHS shelters.
