State says 72.7% of NYC high school students finished on time in ’18, showing solid improvement over the years.

State Education Department announces City’s high school graduation rate has reached 72.7%, for the group that started in 2014 and finished in June 2018, four years later. Some students finish up in August, getting their credits in that summer. Others( last year, 2017, about 11%, are still enrolled)http://www.nysed.gov/news/2019/state-education-department-releases-2014-cohort-high-school-graduation-rates . In 2004 56.4% graduated on time, in 2001 only 46.5% finished on time. The percentage of the  group that started in the ninth grade in 2011 and finished on time in Mayor De Blasio’s first year, 2014, was 67.2%. Once again, many kids stay in school and finish high school in their fifth or sixth year.

Jim Brennan was a member of the New York State Assembly for 32 years and retired at the end of 2016. He chaired four committees, including the Assembly Committee on Corporations, Authorities, and Commissions for six years, the Committee on Cities for five years, and the Committee on Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities for six years. There are 96 Brennan laws on the books of the State of New York and Jim won three national awards for his legislative work during his career.
